Open source CMS Finalists – 2008

I have been using DRUPAL and other open source content management systems for a while now and have run several interesting projects and while I truly believe that DRUPAL is one of the most powerful community platforms, it was good to see it amongst the top finalists for the 2008 Open Source Awards by Packt.

The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award is designed to encourage, support, recognize and reward Open Source Content Management Systems (CMS) that have been selected by a panel of judges and visitors to www.PacktPub.com. Now entering its third year, the Award has established itself as an important measure for quality and the popularity of Open Source Content Management Systems.

T o address this issue, Global Media Strategies and directions were presented at KualaLumpur, Malaysia.

Google vs. Yahoo: “Connect the Dots”

The recent shakeup at Yahoo and the vast difference in the earnings report of the two companies is a perfect business case study.

While there is a lot of speculation, enthusiasm and hopes with Mr. Yang taking over the reins of Yahoo Inc, the single most important thing is to “Connect the Dots”. Yahoo being a collection of some extremely good sites has become the place where webizens spend the most time as compared to any other site /sites.

However, the sites and the services are not tied together with a laser focus on user base and advertising, to make the most of it. There is Yahoo 360, Messenger, Flickr and many more that could act as verticals while tied to a few horizontal services, including advertising engine, messenger and email.

Google, on the other hand, has done an extremely good job in keeping a laser focus on the user base for all it’s services that ties in with your google account.
